What is a Chiropractor?

Chiropractors are doctorate level trained providers that specialize in manual treatments, most notably spinal manipulation.  Many chiropractors are specialized in particular fields just like medical doctors.  A sports based chiropractor is not only proficient in treatment, but rehab and strength and conditioning as well.

What do I need to bring?

Be prepared to provide your previous medical and surgical history as well as family and social history (smoking status, exercise habits, etc). Please bring a list of medications that you are taking and any imaging (x-ray, MRI, etc) reports and/or CD's.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Please wear comfortable and athletic type clothing that you can move in.  You can bring extra clothes and change into them if you are coming from work or another professional environment.

How many visits will I need?

The number of treatments will vary depending on the problem and individual. After a thorough assessment, a personalized treatment plan will be formulated in order to relieve pain and prevent recurrence.  Discussion on performance based services can also be included.  Many patients visit a chiropractor for "maintenance" treatment but it is not required.

How long is a typical appointment?

Your initial visit takes around an hour to assure a proper consultation and evaluation.  Subsequent visits can vary based on your status and condition and are typically around 20-30 minutes.

Do I have to be referred by a doctor?

No, chiropractors are portal of entry providers and do not need a referral.  However, some insurance plans may require a referral to a specialist.  Your insurance card will typically indicate a referral is needed.
